Why allergy Testing? Is it so important?
The recurrent physiological disturbances, disturbs the routine life cycle. Doctors recommend allergy tests to improve quality of life and prevent life-threatening allergic reactions. Although there is no cure for allergy, knowing your allergen, you can easily manage the reactions. Being aware of the triggers will help you determine which allergens to avoid, if possible.
Our immune system is our defence mechanism against any non-self/ foreign substance / invader.
When body’s immune system mistakenly detects food/food ingredients we eat as foreign to the body, we develop food allergy.
The common allergy symptoms can be:
Some allergic reactions can be life threatening and can cause your body to undergo an Anaphylactic shock. (Anaphylaxis causes the immune system to release a flood of chemicals that can cause you to go into shock — blood pressure drops suddenly and the airways narrow, blocking breathing. Signs and symptoms include a rapid, weak pulse; a skin rash; and nausea and vomiting.)
The Allergy Explorer – Lab On Chip Technology with minimum infrastructure requirement. Our allergen testing uses Microarray Assay technology – 4th Generation Allergy testing technology. Advantage of Allergy Screening, Diagnosis, Prognosis & Monitoring Together –
Our immune system is our defence mechanism against any non-self/ foreign substance/ invader. When body’s immune system mistakenly detects food/food ingredients we eat as foreign to the body, we develop food allergy.
Similarity:
Both produce unwanted reactions.
Both are associated with body’s immune reaction
Difference:
Parameter | Allergy & Food allergy | Food Intolerance |
---|---|---|
The trigger elements | Wide variety of allergens from food & environment including food, pollen, fungi, molds, mites, Latex, dander | Only food items of different categories like cereals & seeds, fish & sea foods, meat, tea, coffee, fruits, legume, egg, milk, mashroom. No environmental triggers cause food intolerance |
Symptom onset | Immediately after exposure to allergen | Delayed reaction |
Exposure Quantity | Very minute amount of exposure can elicit hypersensitive reaction | Small amount of food can be consumed & it can be overcome by making body tolerant over a period of time. |
Effect | Severe and potentially life-threatening reactions that may include anaphylaxis (anaphylactic shock) in some cases. | Reactions can be severe and extremely unpleasant but are rarely life-threatening |
Measuring Parameter | Measures IgE antibody mediated immediate hypersensitivity reaction. IgE carries a specific radar/ signature specific to each molecular component of an allergen | Measures IgG Antibody delayed immune reaction |
Management | Avoid allergens, immunotherapy if allergen is not avoidable, emergency epinephrine/ antihistamines | Avoiding food item or eating in very less quantities to the level that body does not produce symptoms. |
People who develop severe reactions or symptoms immediately after exposure to allergens like drugs, pollens, dust, mites, food material, plant product and develop immediate reactions like skin reaction, heartburn, sneezing, coughing, breathing issues, watery eyes, then they should get tested for any allergic
You need to give a minimum of 3 ml of a blood sample for the tests.
You should not avoid any food item min 4-5 weeks before the test. Or please inform the lab if you have restricted any food.
The allergy test is semi-quantitative & it will tell you the IgE Antibody level in your sample against each allergen included in the test. At the end of the report, it gives the total IgE level present in your blood due to the presence of the allergens under investigation & gives the final interpretation.
Your history of allergies, food reactions, and symptoms you develop in a particular environment or at a specific time of the day or after eating a particular food. Any medication if you are taking to treat any inflammatory or adverse reactions or for any other disease.
Allergy test will give you a result in the form of a semi-quantitative value of your antibody against the intolerant food item (s) or allergen (s). It may be possible that you are allergic/ intolerant to one or more antigens.
Allergy test measures IgE Antibody Antibody in your body from a small amount of blood sample very sensitively.
Please see the indications of testing & you can also consult with your physician.
In one working day, you will get the test result in a soft copy.
Yes Sample need not be a fasting blood sample. Only a sample immediately after heavy food is avoided.
Allegy test ranges in 8000-9000/-
The Allergen test can measure as low as 0.3 Ku / l OF iGe Ab from your sample whereas FI test measures as low as 5 ug/ml for all food extracts.
